The Most Important Key To Christian Life

I’ve had thousands of hours of talks, coaching, mentoring and spiritual guidance conversations over the years and there is a KEY component that always comes up – hearing the voice of God.

 

I know, I know… it can be a touchy question for most of us.

 

◼️ How do I know if it’s REALLY God’s voice I’m hearing?

◼️ Can I trust what I hear (‘cos there’s a lot riding on this decision for me)?

◼️ Can He hear me?

◼️ What do I talk to Him about?

◼️ Can I tell Him anything? Will He understand what I’m going through?

 

And these are all totally legitimate questions that we’d all like answers to.

 

It’s a real step of faith to believe that we can communicate with the Creator of the Universe (and that He actually wants to communicate with us too!).

How God comforts us when we’re sad

“… (Name) suddenly died of a massive heart attack yesterday”

The news stopped me in my tracks!

 

“But, I just saw him not too long ago at church and he looked fine…”

As I’ve been thinking about the news of my friend’s death Jesus has shown me some Truths about processing through hard things with Him (and how He comforts us when we do).

1. We can come to Him and tell Him all the things we’re really feeling. He’s felt them all (Heb 4:15) and wants to process them with us (Heb 4:16)

2. He is our comfort as we navigate times when we’re experiencing grief, pain, anxiety, anger, despair…

3. He will walk through the process with us and gently see us to the other side (John 16:33)

 

So my friend, if you are going through a hard season or a difficult event, then listen to or watch today’s podcast episode and let Jesus comfort you, process with you and walk through it with you – He loves to do so.

Expectations: I Don’t Get To Judge

I was at a conference one day, serving the attendees at ‘Prophetic Booths’. 

 

We created little stations of 3 chairs. Two for a couple of us who would be asking God for a word of encouragement for the 3rd person, a conference guest.

 

I was still so new at hearing God’s voice and I was so scared I’d make a mistake, so I was really relying on my partner to know what they were doing.

 

A man walked up to me and he looked like he lived in a homeless camp and had his one nice shirt on. His arm was broken and in a sling and his beard was long and scraggly. I was mortified! This man couldn’t possibly hear from God!

 

“Great, now I’m going to have to get a word for me, AND from him” I complained to God.

 

We introduced ourselves and waited for our first guest…

 

What happened next absolutely changed my life forever!

 

I learned a valuable lesson that day that I share in today’s podcast episode. I don’t get to hold other people to MY expectations. I don’t get to judge. I don’t get to say how you should be.

 

Jesus was very clear - “Love the Lord your God and love your neighbor as yourself” - Mark 12:30-31

 

Now I am able to stand before someone and simply ask, “Lord, what do You love about this person? How do You see them?”

 

It is the most freeing space to live from.

Will you stick with God, like He sticks with you?

These words (and their actions) may not be as popular in our society as they once were. But that doesn’t make them any less valuable or important to God.

 

I’ve been in tears today as we celebrate this 200^th episode of the Adventures with Jesus, Today podcast.

revelation,

comfort,

encouragement,

correction,

love

etc etc etc, to give to us each week for the past 4 years!

Are You a Worrier Or a Warrior ?

I used to think that becoming a Christian meant that my life would be carefree and happy all the time.

 

I mean isn’t that what the ‘sales brochure’ says?

 

Then I came across John 16:33 where Jesus says that we will have persecution in this life………..(ummmm)

 

BUT

Not to worry…

BECAUSE 

He has overcome the world.

 

Well, this was a bit of a ‘wake-up call’ to me when I first realized what this could look like in my life.

 

BUT

 

As I have journeyed through that verse (and life with Jesus), I’ve come to realize that the REAL joy of Christianity is not WHAT life looks like, but WHO is walking through it with you.

 

When we live our lives from this perspective, we can see that being a ‘worrier’ isn’t any use at all. It’s being a ‘warrior’ with Jesus, and living from victory that is the promise of God for our lives.

Give it to God - What happens when we trust Him

Our daughter came to live with us when she was 11, and I found myself woefully in over my head as far as parenting was involved.

 

I so desperately wanted her to ’turn out OK’, that I thought I needed to be the only input in her life because then I could ‘control’ the outcome.

 

Wow, was I wrong…

 

It changed my life when I realized that I didn’t have to be my child’s only input 

• I could let God bring others around her who could pour into her
• I didn’t feel left out or bad because I wasn’t that ‘answer’ for her
• I saw how well rounded and rich her thinking became because she could wrestle her own way and come to her own rock solid conclusions

 

When my team and I sit with our coaching clients, we simply tune into God’s heart and coach from that place.

 

• We don’t need to be the voice of input
• We don’t need to know all about your business or life
• We just get to hear what God has to say about you, and see your life become like what He created you to be

Why God doesn’t stick to your deadlines?

“You have to have that homework done by 8pm tonight”

“Our employees need to be paid by the last day of the month”

“We have to close on this house by the 15^th or else someone else will get it”

 

Deadlines have a way of looming over us and causing us to feel so much anxiety and stress.

 

We feel the pressure (whether we put it on ourselves or it’s from someone else), and it’s crushing.

 

And then add to that, God doesn’t seem to be moved by those deadlines when we ask Him to help us to.  

 

What’s up with that?

 

We can so often get mad with God for not ‘meeting’ our deadlines, but the Truth is that He is fully aware of them, and wants to bring us something even better!
