“I don’t know what to do about what is happening to me” she cried as I listened to her pour her heart out about what she is facing.
My heart really went out to her because I’ve said that myself. You see, she’s facing spiritual warfare similar to what we all do, and it can be frustrating when we’ve done everything we know to do and nothing seems to be working!
The more she shared, the more the Lord revealed what was going on behind the scenes. It’s like He was unraveling the threads that made up the picture, so that we could see what was REALLY happening. (He’s brilliant like that!)
He led us to Ephesians 6, and showed her how to deal with this spiritual warfare from a place of victory. A place where she could say, “this is happening FOR me, not TO me.”
Wow, by the time we were done, she was fired up and ready to face the situation head on - with Jesus.
I saw her today (3 days later), and she said that what was bothering her is GONE!
But more important than that, is that she has GROWN in her surrender to God, and now knows more about doing spiritual warfare with Him. Priceless.

It doesn’t make sense. Kingdom ways just don’t make any earthly sense most of the time.
We think things should look a certain way. Work out a particular way. Happen this way. But, that’s not how God does things.
It’s just the same when we read 2 Cor 12:9 where Paul talks about ‘delighting in weakness’.
It doesn’t make sense!
Aren’t we supposed to ‘be all we can be’, ‘never show them you’re weak’ and ‘always be happy’? Isn’t that what we’re raised to believe?
Well, thank God that His ways are not our ways, because so much of what we think we are ‘supposed’ to believe, keeps us dependent on our own ability instead of God’s.

I had a biopsy a few days before and I’d been praying through what it would look like if cancer was found. Would I …
- be instantly healed (miraculously)
Or
- be healed with medicine (miraculously)?
(my first question was, “will I lose my hair?” – who is with me?)
During that 8 week medicinal journey I learned SO much about doing life with Jesus. In amongst the pain and exhaustion I learned how to pray at new levels. I saw the goodness of God in completely new ways. My relationships went deeper than they ever had before.
And my love for Jesus became rock solid.
The lessons I learned through that hard time have stayed with me, and shaped my character ever since that day. They have literally made me who I am, with Him.

"I lost my job" 😔
My friend looked at me with total despair in his eyes. The thoughts and fears that losing his job had raised in his mind were driving him crazy.
Everyone around him was commiserating and trying to encourage him, but he was really scared.
I looked at him and said, "woohoo, God must have something even better for you then. This is a good day!"
He was shocked.
How could I be so insensitive to him in this horrible situation?
It took a little time, but after we'd sat talking about the reality of Romans 8:28 for a while, his smile began to return to his face.

I’ve heard it said so many times (and said it myself), “oh, I guess all that’s left to do is to pray”.
It happens to all of us. We face a problem and the first thing we do is try to solve it the way we always have.
• We resolve to work harder
• We think of who we can ask to help us
• We strive to make more money so the situation will be covered
Then, when we’ve exhausted everything we know to do it’s as if the thought occurs to us that the last thing on the list is to pray about it.
Well, what if we flipped the script and prayer became the first thing we do?
What if we went to the One Who has all the answers, and loves us enough to want to walk through the situation with us?!?!

“I can’t believe they did that to me”
“I’m SO mad at her right now. How dare she say that about me”
“Give me that bag of chips – at least they’ll help me feel better”
Our emotions are real!
And the kicker is that they are God-given.

There are so many beautiful examples in Jesus’ life of how He dealt with feeling…
Betrayed
Bad-mouthed
Lonely
Disappointed
Angry
Overwhelmed
Sad
I’ve been feeling really angry this past week. I flare up at those closest to me and the thoughts in my head aren’t good.
In my frustration I took this to Jesus. He showed me the reality of what is happening, and how to deal with it all.
I’m back to my peaceful place and I’m SO grateful for His love and wisdom.

“I wonder what the New Year will look like?”
It’s a question most of us ask in December when we start looking forward to what’s next.
A New Year is kind of like a 'reset’ for most of us…
A time to stop and take stock of our lives.
A time to dream about the future.
A time to put some steps in place to actually get there.
And most of us know how to do that pretty well. Here’s the invitation though.
In Jer 29:11 God says that He has plans for us too. Whoa, wait a minute.
Whose plans would I prefer to follow? The ones I can think up or the ones God has for me?
What if there’s a way to bring your dreams to the table, and God brings His, and between the two of you, you work out a way forward - together!!!
Now that’s a ‘win-win’ situation right there.
As we step victoriously into 2023, Jesus is inviting you to dream about it WITH Him. Quick, say “yes” :-)
